What Is a Digital Canvas?
A Digital Canvas is a bespoke direct-view LED wall, engineered into your architecture to show fine art and cinema — and to disappear when you want it to.
The short answer
A Digital Canvas is a large-format, fine-pitch direct-view LED (DVLED) wall, custom-engineered into a room so it mounts nearly flush, holds true blacks and gallery-accurate color, and reads as part of the architecture rather than a screen hung on it.
When you are watching, it is a cinematic display. When you are not, it shows museum-quality art, photography, or ambient scenes — so the wall is beautiful and useful every hour of the day, not a black rectangle waiting to be turned on. That is the line between a video wall and a Digital Canvas: one is hardware, the other becomes architecture.
How it is different
A Digital Canvas vs. the alternatives
Not a television
A TV is an appliance that goes black when off. A Digital Canvas has no screen-door effect, holds true blacks, performs in a bright room, and — with CLIO control — displays art around the clock. It is rated for roughly 100,000 hours of life.
Not a commodity video wall
A standard video wall is industrial hardware sized to a catalog. A Digital Canvas is purpose-built to your exact dimensions, calibrated as a single seamless surface, and finished so the technology reads as part of the room.
Becomes architecture
We do not hang a display on your wall — we build the wall. Ultra-thin, frame-free panels integrate into the surface so the canvas belongs to the space, then steps back into it when the art fades.
The technology
Direct-view LED, in plain terms
Direct-view LED — DVLED, sometimes written “DV LED” — means the picture is made of millions of tiny LEDs you look at directly, with no backlight, no projector, and no seams between panels. That is what lets a Digital Canvas span an entire wall as one continuous, bezel-free image.
The spacing between those LEDs is the pixel pitch, measured in millimeters. The right pitch is chosen for how far away you sit — not for a marketing number. Resolution figures like “4K” and “8K” matter far less than pitch matched to viewing distance: at a typical seating distance, a finer series at a slightly larger pitch will look better than a lesser series pushed to a tighter one.
microLED is a related, even finer direct-view technology. We offer microLED-class builds for select bespoke projects; for most luxury interiors, our advanced flip-chip LED delivers the depth, color, and longevity the space calls for. The right choice is a conversation about your room, not a spec-sheet contest.
